Ocean Wise is a Vancouver Aquarium conservation program created to educate and empower consumers about the issues surrounding sustainable seafood. Eight ½ restaurant lounge only serves seafood that is locally sourced and approved by the Ocean Wise Program.
The primary objective of the Mount Pleasant Business Improvement Area (MPBIA) is to keep our business community vibrant and increasingly prosperous. We actively encourage business recruitment and support business development. The operator of eight ½ restaurant lounge, Michael Wiebe, is the new Vice President of the MPBIA.
We’re a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the overlooked laneways and alleys of Vancouver into pedestrian-friendly zones. Eight ½ restaurant has worked with Liveable Laneways for 3 years to create a better laneway experience. This has included great events such as BBQ cook-offs, farmers markets, greenery projects, planters, business accountability, and a community feel.
ShopMain.ca is a collaborative grassroots approach among Main Street business owners. As merchants along the Main Street corridor in Vancouver, we want to raise our exposure as a vibrant and eclectic shopping district. From 2nd Avenue all the way up to 33rd, we are proud to have some of Vancouver’s finest shops and services that offer everything from antiques to vintage and consignment clothing as well as some of the hottest local designers and favourite hairs salons and spas, restaurants/delis, coffee shops and so much more.
The Mount Pleasant Implementation Committee (MPIC) is made up of volunteers from the Mount Pleasant community. The committee provides advice to City staff and City Council on the implementation process for the Mount Pleasant Community Plan. Eight ½ restaurant volunteers to be on this committee to ensure that this community that we call home keeps its charm and warmth.
Greenest City 2020 is a bold initiative that will address Vancouver’s environmental challenges, making us the greenest city in the world by 2020. Eight ½ restaurant works with city officials, BC Hydro, Fortis BC, Waste Management and others to continue to decrease our footprint. We’ve taken advantage of new programs to change our hot water tank to an on-demand, all lights to LEDs, installed energy star equipment and more. Eight ½ is one of the areas first restaurants to have a complete composting program, reducing our waste by over 75%.

THE LOBSTER MAN is one of the original tenants of vibrant Granville Island in the heart of Vancouver, British Columbia. We have been in the business of selling live shellfish since 1977 and are Vancouver’s premier destination for live lobster and crab. Our 25,000 gallons of salt water is temporary home to Nova Scotia Lobster, Queen Charlotte Island Dungeness Crab, Alaskan king crab and a large variety of clams, scallops, mussels and oyster species.

SOLEfood Farm is a social enterprise that provides urban agriculture employment and training opportunities for Vancouver’s inner-city residents. Working alongside farmer/author Michael Ableman, community residents are trained and employed to install and manage small production farms on leased urban lots. Produce grown from the farms is washed, cooled, and consolidated at a central location, then sold to restaurants, at farmers markets and distributed to community organizations.

D-Original Sausage Co. is owned and operated by master sausage maker Drews Driessen, with the help of his wife and son. Drews was born into his craft in northern Germany, and represents five generations of sausage making. While his interest started off as a boy helping his father and grandfather in any spare moments, his craft and expertise would be taken to unprecedented heights through travel and education; the former explaining why you’re able to purchase calabrese (Italy), saucisson sec (France), and fuet (Spain) from us.
